Free Ways To Thank Bloggers

I’m sure many of you found a lot of good advice on different blogs, and you wanted to somehow thank the blogger. Many bloggers take PayPal donations disguised as requests for beer, using the Buy Me a Beer WordPress plugin. My blog also has the plugin installed, but I haven’t received any donations though it yet. But this is all right with me, because I know why people don’t want to donate, even though I know that they found some of my posts helpful; it costs money. Lucky there are many other ways to show gratitude that cost no money! I am going to summarize a few, and if I missed some, feel free to leave a comment.

Click the Advertisements
Most revenue that bloggers receive is through the ads displayed on their blogs. Since most of them are Pay-Per-Click based, the more clicks they receive, the more money they get. If I find a blog that I like, I click on some of the advertisements when show. However there is one rule you should always follow: show respect to the advertisers. Someone is paying for those clicks, and they want them to go to good use. When I look for ads that I am actually interested in, and sometimes I spend a few minutes reading the resulting page. It’s a good way to find services to blog about. 😉

I think that is the best way to thank a blogger, because it has several positive effects. First of all, it shows other visitors that the blog has been liked by someone else, so they spend more time on it. Next, it tells the blogger that they are doing a good job. Even if you just say “Thank You, that was very informative.”, it will boost the blogger’s morale. Also don’t forget, you can also leave a link to your site along with the comment. Here is a hint, all my comments have nofollow turned off.

Reddit, Digg It or Stumble It
Another great way to thank a blogger is by submitting their post to one of the social news sites, because it will draw more traffic to their site. In most cases, the initial submission has already been done for you, so all you have to do is click one button. Most blogs have a button installed right in the post, so it does not take a lot of work to digg the post.

Blog About It
If you have a blog, and the post fits your niche, why not do a quick write out about it? Not only it gives the blogger a link (thus raising their technorati rating), but also it gives you content. Quite often when I have a problem, and it takes me a long time to solve it, I do a quick write up about it where I cite all my sources.

I tend to click ads on blogs. Hopefully, more and more people will a) read this post and b) click on ads as well, so bloggers may get a small revenue at all. Beer is even better but nothing beats links. Links make the blogosphere go round.

Very nice article, will link it. And I clicked (oh, yes, I was interested in the product, too).
