Best Pictures from Google Street View
Karol Krizka @ September 17, 2007
InternetOnMyList posted a collage of images found on Google Street View that were quite funny. For those that don’t know, Google Street View is a new feature on Google Maps that lets you see even closer. The Google squad is driving around different American towns in Chevy Cobalts that have a360 degrees digital camera mounted on their rooftops, and they are snapping pictures of passer-bys.
This brings up a lot of privacy issues, because none of the pictures are censored. For example, look at the guy going into the Adult Book Store. You might not be able to see the front of his face, but his friends/family could still easily recognize him. This could provide for an embarrassing encounter.
This application is potentially illegal here in Canada, so it might not end up being a problem here. Google has not released any pictures of Canadian streets yet. Even I think that this violates one’s privacy, and it should be stopped. The pictures have a high resolution, unlike their satellite images, so everything is shown in detail.
