Sony BMG Goes DRM Free

The North American branch of Sony has decided to drop the DRM protection on the songs sold through its music service! They are starting to understand that their customers do not like to be limited by the items they purchased, which is what DRM is going. Maybe the declining music sales are not due to “music piracy”, but instead due to the fact that once you buy a song it won’t play on anything? After all if you can’t play a song on your iPod, which is one of the most popular portable music players out there, what is the point of purchasing it. We will see if this has any effect on the song sales in the future, but I think that they will increase.

Hopefully the Japanese branch will follow down the same path, but at the moment it does not seem like it.
